The cohabitation contract: a reminder
If you live with your spouse without being married, a cohabitation contract is a primary contract that allows you to agree on specific rules during life as a couple. Small, everyday matters can be included, such as contributing to a joint account or using certain assets. But, above all, it makes it possible to plan, in the event of a breakup, the sharing of furniture, the repayment of debts, or even alimony for one of the spouses.

You are separating, and you had not made a cohabitation contract? You could sign a “separation agreement” to divide the property. However, since breakups are often emotionally charged and sometimes conflictual, it is better to agree in advance through a cohabitation contract when everything is going well.

But if you want more protection for you and your spouse, your cohabitation contract is not enough: other documents must complete it.
